Five area students have won National Merit Scholarships.

LOCAL

The 200-year-old fort is the oldest brick fortification in Georgia. The fort served as a base for both the confederate and union troops at different periods during the Civil War.

One is an accomplished athlete who's never set foot in a sailboat. Two are teammates on a high school sailing team. Another caught the sailing fever during last fall's Leukemia Cup Regatta and has been taking lessons at the Savannah Sailing Center since then.
